An independent company called the Filecoin Foundation promotes Filecoin and the decentralized web, finances important development initiatives, fosters the expansion of the Filecoin ecosystem, and helps manage the Filecoin network. The original designers of Filecoin intended for the Filecoin Ecosystem to be long-term governed by an independent organization called the Filecoin Foundation, which was established in 2017. The Foundation was given the mandate to “give developers an open and sustainable platform to build, enhance, and monetize those services” as well as to “grow an open ecosystem for decentralized storage.” The Apache Software Foundation, Mozilla Foundation, and Linux Foundation are just a few examples of other open-source project foundations that served as inspiration for the Foundation’s design.
The company that created and constructed the Filecoin network, Protocol Labs, does not own the Filecoin Foundation. As the company grows, you will have the chance to define our growth as a member of our early-stage team. As a completely remote company, Filecoin Foundation fosters an inclusive, remote, and collaborative work environment from any location.
Coordinator of Compliance (Permanent Part-Time Position)
For the Filecoin protocol, which powers a distributed data storage network, Filecoin Plus serves as a social trust and verification layer. Teams can apply to become trusted fiduciaries in the network by serving as “allocators.” Clients (data owners or preparers) that want to onboard data to the Filecoin network submit applications to them. Verifying the client’s identity, the accuracy of the data, and the distribution of deals to a wide range of storage providers fall within the purview of the allocators. Every allocator is unique and has their own set of criteria and processes (such distribution thresholds). These allocators receive a balance of an asset known as DataCap, which they can grant to customers in exchange for a higher subsidy when the customers burn the DataCap in storage contracts.
